Chimera to launch gambling operations center in 30 days

Bnamericas
US online gambling firm Chimera Technology Corp has invested US$500,000 in its Costa Rican operations center, from which it will launch worldwide operations in 30 days, Chimera president Ken Chua told BNamericas. The San Jose operations center, called E-Network de Costa Rica, will provide the technological base for company services. Chua picked Costa Rica because of a four-year relationship with a tech team in the country. The unit uses a local telecoms operator Lacsa for Internet access and has a separate satellite backup system. The unit also has a customer service department, a call center and an accounting department. Chimera uses an application service provider (ASP) model to provide all the back office operations for an online gambling service, Chua said. It charges a US$100,000 flat set-up fee and a 35% commission on revenues; it can also provide marketing services and its local gaming licenses allow customers to offer gambling services worldwide, he said. The company has signed up five customers so far, and will launch services at the first one, Singapore's MarketSystem, within 30 days, he said. Chimera offers mainly betting on sports such as US football, hockey and basketball and recently included European soccer, he said. To meet his business plan target, Chua said he wants to sign another three companies within 12 months, and if successful expects to reach net revenues of US$4.6mn in 2004.
