Concessionaire requests early Troncal Sur hwy opening

Highway concessionaire Rutas del Pacifico has requested an early opening for the Troncal Sur highway that will link Chilean Region V coastal city Vina del Mar with nearby towns Quilpue and Villa Alemana, the public works ministry announced. The US$182mn, new 21km stretch, whose contractual start date is August 10, includes eight intersections, 14 secondary road connections and a 465m viaduct. The project falls under the concession contract for the upgrade of highway Ruta 68 that connects capital Santiago with Vina del Mar and neighboring port city Valparaiso, some 110km. Consortium Rutas del Pacifico, made up of Spain's ACS and Sacyr, was awarded the 25-year Ruta 68 concession in 1998.
