EDC restores power after heavy rains

Venezuelan power company Electricidad de Caracas (EDC) has restored power in all the areas of the country it serves following heavy rains and mudslides last week that caused blackouts in some areas, an EDC official told BNamericas, confirming local press reports. EDC managed to restore power to a million households over the weekend, representing about 4 million people in and around the capital, Caracas, the officials said. Heavy out-of-season rains over the last few days caused severe mudslides that claimed dozens of lives, left thousands homeless and many without gas, running water and electricity. In the case of EDC, the company had to repair one substation in the area of Guarenas-Guatire that was severely damaged during a mudslide, the official said.
