Enap to build US$24.5mn gas pipeline

Bnamericas
Chile's state oil company Enap plans to build a US$24.5mn pipeline between the island of Tierra del Fuego and the mainland, the company said in documents submitted to environmental authority Conama on 24 October. The 14-inch diameter, 104km pipeline would be the second gas line across the Magellan Straits, taking gas from the Cullen plant on the island to the Posesion plant on the mainland. Gas could be processed there or sent on to Enap's Cabo Negro plant. The first stage would be the construction of the 28km underwater section, followed in stage two by two respective land stages. The pipeline is due to begin operations in July, 2005, and the project would have a 25-year working life.
