Endesa increases ISO 14001 certification

Chilean generator Endesa (NYSE: EOC) has secured ISO 14001 certification for eight of its power plants this month, meaning that 63% of its generation park now has the environmental certification, Endesa said in a statement Monday. The company has 18 plants, totaling 8,862MW installed capacity, operating under the certification. The certified plants are: San Isidro, Atacama, Pangue, Taltal, Cipreses, Isla, Curillinque, Loma Alta, Pehuenche, Tarapaca and Rapel (Chile); Costanera, Dock Sud, El Chocon and Arroyito (Argentina); and El Paraiso, La Guaca and Betania (Colombia). Endesa started the process in 2000 with the goal of achieving certification at 80% of its plants in 2007, but has raised its sights to 98% certification by the end of 2005, the statement said.
