Endesa's Fortaleza thermo project to start year-end

Bnamericas
Spanish power company Endesa said that its gas-fired thermoelectric project in Forteleza, northeast Brazil, is on schedule to begin operations by year-end. Japan's Mitsui is building the 310MW plant, which is estimated to cost US$250mn. Endesa said it successfully tested the first of two turbogenerators supplied by French engineering firm Alstom, and tests of the second generator will be carried out in a few weeks. Endesa subsidiary Central Geradora Termeletrica Fortaleza (CGTE) will operate the plant. State energy company Petrobras and Ceara state gas distributor Cegas will supply gas to the project, which is part of the federal government's thermoelectric priority plan. Local distributor Coelce - an Endesa subsidiary - will buy 100% of the power generated.
