Executive: Sector to close year with US$483mn in revs

The Dominican Republic's insurance sector should close the year with between 14.bn pesos (US$483mn) and 15bn pesos in sales, Heriberto Aristy Calvo, technical director of the country's insurance regulator told BNamericas. It represents an important increase if we compare it with the 9.bn pesos registered last year, Aristy said, adding that in 2005 the sector will experience a growth of between 15% and 20%. "This should grow because there is more confidence in the new authorities, which has been reflected in new investments and interest from new companies in entering the market," Aristy said. Among the areas that have experienced the greatest increase in 2004 are the policies against fire, life insurance and vehicle cover.
