Bnamericas
Mexico's President Vicente Fox started operations Friday of four thermoelectric plants totaling 889MW capacity and US$836mn investment, state power company CFE said in a statement. Fox was at the official start-up ceremony of Spanish power company Unión Fenosa's 302MW natural gas-fired Naco Nogales plant at Agua Prieta in Sonora state, which actually started operations last November. From a video link in Naco Nogales, Fox oversaw the official start-up of US energy company Sempra's 600MW Mexicali combined cycle plant, which also started operations in 2003. Fox also pressed the start button at Canadian company Transalta's Chihuahua III plant at El Encino in Chihuahua state, which started operations in September 2003, and CFE's Guerrero Negro II plant in Baja California Sur.
