Furnas starts 175MW ops. at Santa Cruz expansion

Bnamericas
Federally owned Brazilian generator Furnas has started initial operations of the 350MW two-stage expansion of the 600MW Santa Cruz thermoelectric plant in Rio de Janeiro state, the company said in a statement Wednesday. The expansion changed oil-fired generation to gas, and added a combined cycle unit to the plant. The second stage of the expansion, which is part of the thermoelectric priority program (PPT) that the federal government introduced in 2000, will finish this year. Santa Cruz started commercial operations in 1967.
