Governor vows to construct bi-national petrochemical plant

The governor of Brazil's central west state Mato Grosso do Sul, Jose Orcirio dos Santos (also known as Zeca do PT), plans to see the first phase of a petrochemical plant built before the end of his mandate in 2007, official state news service Agencia Popular reported. The governor met with mining and energy minister Dilma Rousseff and the head of international affairs at federal energy company Petrobras, Nestor Cervero, on Thursday to discuss the project. "We have certainly advanced in defining this project," the governor said after the meeting. Constructing the US$1bn plant in Corumba on Brazil's border with Bolivia is estimated to take 3-4 years.
