Govt. prepares law for sharing utilities' infrastructure

Peru's transport and communications ministry is preparing a new law to encourage telecoms and electric power companies to share infrastructure, daily newspaper Gestion reported. Communications secretary Juan Pacheco recently stated that the law is practically ready and will then be sent to congress, the report said. The new rules would, amongst other issues, help organize chaotic cabling across the country, Osiptel general manager Liliana Ruiz was quoted as saying. In the past, Osiptel has sparred with cable television operators and incumbent telecom operator Telefonica for not offering to share infrastructure, she said.
