Govts. to prioritize infra. investment authority creation

The creation of a South American infrastructure investment authority will be a priority during Peru's presidency of the South American regional integration initiative IIRSA, Peru's deputy transport minister Richard Diaz Gonzalez said. Peru will receive the rotating presidency next month. The creation of an investment authority to provide financing and facilitate continuing development was agreed at the fifth meeting of the IIRSA executive committee in Chilean capital Santiago earlier this month. IIRSA was established in 2000 at meeting of South American Presidents in Brasilia and is a multi-sector and multi-disciplinary initiative that includes transport, power and telecommunications, as well as economic, legal and political aspects, among others.
