Govts to hold talks on Corentyne binational bridge

Bnamericas
Guyana and Suriname will convene a meeting of technical specialists to discuss issues that need to be resolved to solicit bids for construction of a bridge across the Corentyne river, linking the two countries. The team will define technical specifications for the bridge and the best site to build the structure, Guyana's government information service Gina reported. The meeting, which is scheduled to take place by the first week of December, was announced by President Bharrat Jagdeo, after a meeting with his Surinamese counterpart Desi Bouterse. Both presidents said the project is a priority and that they will seek funding from the Chinese government. The authorities have discussed including construction of the bridge, along with a road connecting Guyana's capital Georgetown with city Lethem, in South American regional infrastructure integration initiative IIRSA.
