Guaraniana cuts ribbon on Bahia plant

Brazilian power group Guaraniana has held the official launch of its first hydro plant after operations began in June, business daily Gazeta Mercantil reported. The Itapebi plant is on the Jequitinhonha River in southern Bahia state. The group, controlled by Spain's Iberdrola, has invested some 660mn reais (US$226mn) in the plant since starting work in November 1999. It will operate three turbines for a total 450MW and by year-end is expected to have produced 1,700GWh in guaranteed power.
