Guayaquil port channels back to depth

Bnamericas
The US Army Engineering Corps (USAEC) said that access channels to Ecuador's Port of Guayaquil have been restored to a depth of 9.6m following completion of a dredging program, Expreso reported. Emilio Aguiar, head of the country's maritime chamber said, "All we have is the security that exists with this depth. Vessels will still have to wait for the two tides to enter or exit," according to the newspaper. The USAEC will deliver its final report on the dredging works in three weeks that will be compared with the results of a bathymetric study performed by Inocar, the oceanographic institute of the fleet. The USAEC awarded Dutch firm Van Oord ACZ Marine Contractors a US$13.2mn contract to carry out the dredging works at Guayaquil in December, after six groups presented proposals, BNamericas previously reported.
