Infraero pre-qualifies 13 for Macapa, Santos Dumont airport tenders

Bnamericas
Brazil's federal airport authority Infraero has pre-qualified 13 groups to expand Amapa state capital Macapa airport and Rio de Janeiro's Santos Dumont aiport. Of the thirteen consortia and one company that submitted background documents and offers for Macapa, seven consortia made up of companies including OAS, Carioca, Odebrecht, Queiroz Galvao, Andrade Gutierrez, Camargo Correa and Techint pre-qualified, an Infraero tender department told BNamericas. Earlier this year, Infraero and Amapas state inked an agreement whereby Infraero pledged to spend 95mn reais (US$32.7mn) to build a new terminal, as well as a staging area for planes and taxiways, along with other complementary works. The works will take two years to complete, and will increase passenger capacity to some 670,000/year; more than 300,000 passengers passed through the airport last year, a 26% increase from 2001. For its part, the Amapa state government will invest 17mn reais to build an access road to the airport and other urban works. SANTOS DUMONT Of the 11 consortia and one company that submitted background documents and offers for Santos Dumont, company Camargo Correa and five consortia made up of companies including OAS, Carioca, Odebrecht, Andrade Gutierrez, Mendes Junior and Techint pre-qualified. Infraero will invest some 230mn reais to add some 60,000 sq. m. to the airport terminal, as well as a parking garage and hotel. The airport receives some 6 million passengers/y, though it was designed to handle no more than 3 million. Works are expected to be completed in 2006, just in time to handle the increased demand for the 2007 Pan-American games. The official said that following a period of legal recourse for groups that failed to pre-qualify, technical and economic offers of those that pre-qualified will be opened, with winners expected by end-February.
