Bnamericas
Venezuela's environment and natural resources ministry (MARN) intends to increase coverage of potable water services in the country to 100% in 2007, according to minister Ana Osorio in a statement by state news agency Venpres. Coverage is currently at 94% she said during a speech at World Water Day celebrations attended by the presidents of water utilities Hidroven (Cristóbal Francisco) and Hidrocapital (Jacqueline Faría), minister of health and social development, Roger Capella and deputy minister of water at MARN, Alejandro Hitcher. Improving water treatment and sanitation services will become an increasing priority, she said. "This year we are going to start the construction of treatment plants in Barinas, Bolívar and Barquisimeto, and we are going to finish the Punta Gorda in Nueva Esparta and continue the expansion of the plants at Los Guayos and La Mariposa at Lago de Valencia," she said in the release.
