MRS hits 5th consecutive monthly cargo record

Brazilian railroad concessionaire MRS Logistica moved 7.76Mt of cargo in August, breaking its monthly record for the fifth consecutive month, after moving 7.55Mt in July, the transport ministry reported. To meet increased demand, MRS expects to complete the reception of 32 GE locomotives in October. The concessionaire moved 40.4Mt of cargo in the first semester, up 18.3% from the same period last year. The concessionaire operates the 1,700km southeast rail network (Malha Sudeste) through the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, moving 74.4Mt of cargo in 2002. It expects to move 85Mt this year.
