MTC approves provincial internet, telephony project

Peru's transport and communication ministry MTC has approved a project to bring coverage to 32 areas in the province of Huarochorí, the ministry said in a statement. Local firm Valtron will be in charge of implementing the project and for that the company will create a telecoms operator division whose aim will be to maintain high quality while offering maximum coverage. By the end of the project in five years the company plans to reach 951 subscribers in fixed telephony, 749 public phones, 154 mobile clients and 199 internet accounts including public centers and private users. The project will be financed through the government's telecoms fund Fitel and will benefit over 100,000 inhabitants. By last December, the province had 1,508 fixed lines in service with a teledensity of 2.42 lines per 100 inhabitants and 179 public phones. With this project, MTC expects to increase the penetration levels in the province, so Valtron can increase its revenues and invest more in these kinds of services.
