Ministry pushes forward with port security efforts

A workgroup created by Brazil's transport ministry to draft security plans for the country's ports will carry out a survey of what resources ports will need to implement security policies, the ministry reported. The efforts fall under the framework of the Container Security Initiative launched by the US' Department of Homeland Security & Border Protection last year to increase security measures at overseas ports that trade with the US in response to the 9-11 terrorist attacks.
