NADB Creates Solid Waste Pilot Program

The North American Development Bank (NADB) has established a pilot Solid Waste Environment Program (SWEP), which will support the financing and construction of sustainable solid waste infrastructure systems. "The establishment of the SWEP reconfirms our board's dedication to promote stronger, cleaner communities for residents along the US-Mexican border," NADB managing director Victor Miramontes said. The NADB has allocated US$5mn of its earnings to the SWEP. Projects eligible to receive SWEP assistance must be sponsored by public entities, have received certification from the Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC), and include measures to increase and strengthen their environmental, financial and operational sustainability.
