National guard brought in to halt metals heists
Bnamericas Published: Wednesday, October 01, 2003
Venezuela's national guard is developing a plan to crack down on gangs that steal aluminum and other metals stored at state-owned smelters Alcasa and Venalum, part of the CVG conglomerate, the official Venpres news agency reported. The guard reportedly detained 20 people attempting to make off with large amounts of aluminum and copper stolen from Venalum. Both plants are in Puerto Ordaz, in eastern Venezuela's Bolivar state.
