Bnamericas
The Dutch government will provide 2.7bn pesos (US$1mn) to support solid waste integral management plans (PGIRS) of Colombian municipalities, Colombian state news agency SNE reported. The funds will help 200 municipalities with less than 40,000 residents increase collection and final disposal coverage. The municipalities belong to the departments of Chocó, Cauca, Nariño, Antioquia, Córdoba, Tolima, Bolívar, Santander, Boyacá and Meta. Apart from the Netherlands' financing, the Japanese government has donated 1.82bn pesos for PGIRS in Norte del Valle and the Eje Cafetero. Under resolution 1045 issued September 2003 by the environment ministry, municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants have to implement a PGIRS starting this September; municipalities with 50,000-100,000 residents starting January 31, 2005 and for those with less than 50,000 residents October 5, 2005.
