Nuevo León launches US$12.5mn drainage network

Bnamericas
The state governor of Nuevo León in northern Mexico, José Natividad, has launched the operational start of the 144mn-peso (US$12.5mn) drainage network, dubbed Morenita Mía, designed to serve three municipalities, the state government announced. Morenita Mía, reported to have a 94 cu. m/s capacity, will help prevent flooding in the municipalities of San Nicolás, Apodaca and Escobedo, the government said. The areas suffered serious flooding earlier this year. Further, the governor announced he has proposed a two-pronged anti-flooding policy to local water utility A&D. The short-term plan involves identifying flood prone areas and installing pumping stations to extract water. The medium-term plan is to install drainage networks like Morenita Mía.
