Petroindustrial to test gasoline/ethanol fuel mix

The Petroindustrial refining subsidiary of Ecuador's state oil company Petroecuador will start three days of tests on January 5 on a mixture of gasoline and ethanol derived from sugar cane to be used as automobile fuel, newspaper Expreso quoted Petroindustrial VP Pedro Almeida as saying. The new mixture will save the country almost US60mn in naphtha imports and reduce CO emissions by 30% and CO2 emissions by 6-10%, he said. Preliminary laboratory tests of the new fuel have been successful, he added.
