Ports administrator to boost BA port

Argentina's general ports administrator (AGP) will allocate 31mn pesos (US$10.7mn) to improve Buenos Aires port, after the economy ministry approved the AGP's 2004 action plan and budget, Consejo Portuario Argentino reported. The plan includes turning Puerto Sur into a logistics operations center in order to increase port services' capacity and quality, and with respect to security, navigation control and environmental protection investment, funds will go to the incorporation of new technologies for cargo, vehicle and passenger monitoring. Road and rail access improvement works are also planned, such as through the relocation of existing buildings, as well as coastal defense works. Buenos Aires port moves some 1.2 million TEUs/yr.
