Premium sales grow 24%

Premiums sold by insurers during the first half of 2004 came to 17.2bn reais (US$5.7bn), a 24% leap compared to the same year-ago period, private insurance regulator Susep said, quoted by local press. Premium income during the period came to 11bn reais, a 17.9% increase over 1H03. The accident rate fell from 62% registered in the first six months of 2003 to 58% in the same period this year. Accumulated claims this year came to 6.9bn reais, a 7.9% expansion over the same 2003 period.
