Region XII waste plant to begin ops.

Chilean waste management company Resitec's 700mn peso (US$1.12mn) industrial liquid and solid waste treatment plant in southern Region XII will begin operations November 15, La Prensa Austral reported. The German-equipped plant, construction on which began two years ago, will help ease the strain on regional capital Punta Arenas' municipal landfill. Punta Arenas has some 120,000 residents. It is a commercial and industrial center for Patagonia, with an international airport, a duty free zone a port and a strong fishing and tourism industry.
