Clients of Chilean telco Movistar who acquire a Pearl 8120 smartphone can use the operator's MoviTalk push to talk service, Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) - maker of the BlackBerry - said in a statement. MoviTalk uses RTX (Real Time Exchange) technology. The service has a monthly fee of 9,900 pesos (US$18), which allows communication with one person at a time. For 10,900 pesos, users can hold conferences with up to seven users. *** AT&T (NYSE: T) will make a US$100,000 contribution to the National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians (NOAH) to fund technology that will be used to support an earthquake relief project providing clean water supply to remote locations, the company said in a statement. As part of this NOAH-led project, AT&T will work with one of its small business customers, Atlanta-based Water Transit Solutions (WTS), to supply an innovative technology solution to remote water relief requirements in Haiti. Beginning in July, AT&T and WTS will deploy an RFID technology to help in delivery of the clean water. In Haiti, WTS will deploy water tanks and delivery trucks, equipped with AT&T-designed M2M asset tracking technology. *** Unstable flows of electricity can be a major obstacle to the development of rural telecommunications projects and drive up the total project costs, Edwin San Roman, engineer with Dominican Republic telecoms watchdog Indotel, was quoted as saying in a statement. Speaking at a conference held in capital Santo Domingo, San Roman said the regulator "must check regulation on quality and continuity of service in rural areas and, if necessary, make modifications." Participating in the conference are representatives from 17 countries in the region as well as from the International Telecoms Union (ITU), and companies Codetel, Viva, Orange, OneMax, Skymax, Tricom and Wind Telecom.
