SP water fund to invest US$24mn

São Paulo state's water resources fund (Fehidro) plans to invest 60mn reais (US$24.3mn) this year, the state government reported. Last year, Fehidro spent 30.5mn reais on sewage collection and treatment, water quality recovery, flood and erosion control, and environmental education programs. Hydrographical basin committees have until July 30 to submit financing requests for environmentally licensed works to Fehidro. To date, three of 21 committees have submitted requests. Fehidro is responsible for carrying out the state's water resources policy, spending 225mn reais from 1995 through end-2004.
