Santos port to implement electronic data transmission system

Bnamericas
Brazil's Santos port in Sao Paulo state will process all docking, cargo bulletins and requests via an electronic data transmission system starting January 1, the port's federally controlled operator Codesp reported. Codesp, along with Universidade de Sao Paulo's polytechnic school, developed the internet-based system, dubbed "Supervia Eletronica de Dados do Porto de Santos." The system has already been used as a model for the ports of Rio de Janeiro and Vitoria. Santos handles 26.7% of all Brazilian exports and 25.5% of all Brazilian imports, by air, land or sea, making it the most important gateway for Latin America's largest economy. The 7.76M sq. m port moved 53.5Mt of cargo in 2002.
