Senate delays vote on IT law

Bnamericas
Brazil's senate has delayed voting on a bill giving tax benefits to IT firms from Thursday (Aug.26) until the week of September 13-17, according to online news agency itweb.com.br The delay was due to differences among senators regarding the content of the proposed legislation. Brazil's congress is unlikely to meet next week due to upcoming regional elections. The leaders of the opposition party and the ruling coalition will create a non-partisan commission coordinated by senator Hélio Costa (PMDB-MG) to discuss issues causing disagreement over the IT law, the report said. Disagreement centers on technology convergence, which will be studied separately and could be implemented under another law, according to senate leader Aloízo Mercadante (PT-SP). One of the principal issues is that representatives from Amazonia and Bahia disagree on the production of IT monitors and videos.
