Seneca meets Easter demand record

Bnamericas
Venezuela's Nueva Esparta state distributor Seneca served peak demand of 221MW over the Easter break, a record for the time of year and just below the 223MW all-time record of Christmas 2004, newspaper La Hora reported. Margarita is the largest of Nueva Esparta's islands, which drew some 100,000 tourists over the Easter weekend. Seneca met some 70% of the power demand with electricity generated at its Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi thermoelectric plant and the remaining 30% power from the mainland transported by underwater cable. US utility CMS owns Seneca, although Nueva Esparta state lawmakers loyal to President Hugo Chávez have suggested that the utility is stripped of its concession because of service complaints.
