Bnamericas
Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state IT companies association Seprorgs will elect a new chairman on December 17, with candidates promising to open up new markets for state IT products, local news service Baguete reported. "We are at an extremely significant period in our history, as during the next term reforms will be completed and we will have municipal elections," current chairman Gisele Oliveira was quoted as saying. Joao Abreu and Renato Faria are the two frontrunners: Abreu has been elected three times before and Faria is currently vice president of Brazil's marketing and sales association, ADVB. The state's catholic university PUC-RS in capital Porto Alegre is an important IT research center, and has signed partnerships to establish local laboratories with Dell and Microsoft, and most recently Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HP).
