Siemens exports US$10mn in mobile telephony software in 2004

The Brazilian unit of Germany's Siemens (NYSE: SI) exported US$10mn worth of mobile telephony software produced in its center for research and development in Manaus in 2004, b2b magazine reported. The center, opened last year, has more than two hundred researchers working on mobile technology and software. Siemens aims to export over US$80mn in research and development services by 2008. The company invested US$30mn in research and development in 2004, with 50% focused on networks and 50% focused on mobile units. One project aims to develop 3D graphics software for use in low cost mobile units in partnership with Brazilian research and development group Fundação Desembargador Paulo Feitoza. Siemens has already closed new contracts for next year and might invest up to US$35mn in research and development during 2005. The company also has a research and development center in Curitiba that focuses on the development of software for mobile networks and wireless phones.
