Siget will not regulate text messaging services

Bnamericas
El Salvador's telecoms watchdog Siget will not regulate text messaging services between the country's mobile providers, local daily La Prensa reported. Several of the country's mobile operators got together to test interconnection on their networks and establish a rate structure, according to Siget telecoms manager Víctor Artiga. After several months of technical testing between platforms, El Salvador's mobile operators now can exchange test messaging across their networks. An accord signed between three of the country's mobile operators set the price of a text message between networks at US$0.05 a minute regardless of which network the message came from or terminated at. Additional details on the services will be given on their official launch in January.
