Skanska wins US$38.3mn sulfur project for Refap

Bnamericas
Swedish engineering firm Skanska has been awarded a contract worth US$38.3mn to design and build two sulfur treatment plants at the Alberto Pasqualini refinery ( Refap) in Rio Grande do Sul state, Skanska said in a statement. Skanska will plan, build and install two parallel sulfur treatment plants, a residual gas plant and a wastewater treatment plant. The total capacity of the treatment plant is 98 tons a day of sulfur, which will be recovered for commercial use. The contract is part of a US$650mn investment plan designed to upgrade and expand production, boosting processing capacity by 50% to 30,000 cubic meters of oil a day by mid-2004. Brazil's federal energy company Petrobras owns 70% of Refap, Spain's Repsol-YPF owns the remaining 30%. The refinery is located in Canoas, greater Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul state.
