Smith Enron barge restarts ops

Bnamericas
The 180MW Smith Enron power barge in the Dominican Republic restarted operations on December 27, producing some 130MW of power, according to the electricity regulator's daily operations bulletin. The generation was Smith Enron's first since early September, news service El Caribe reported. The plant had been offline because Smith Enron was not receiving enough cash from power sales to cover fuel purchase costs. Meanwhile, units V and VI of the 210MW Los Mina thermoelectric plant, the 300MW AES Andrés plant and the Itabo I plant are all offline, according to the report because of administrative issues, low fuel supplies and a technical fault, respectively. US power company AES (NYSE: AES) owns Los Mina and AES Andrés, and has an indirect 25% stake in Itabo. A unit of the 300MW San Pedro de Macorís (CESPM) plant has been out of operations since the weekend due to technical problems, El Caribe said.
