Terra seeks ISP license

Bnamericas
Argentine portal Terra is waiting for approval from the Argentine telecom regulator SeCom to begin providing residential Internet access, Infobae reported. The request was made three months ago and will be launched as soon as the SeCom gives the green light. Terra is likely to target the 200,000 or so customers that use its email account services. Internet access will add another revenue stream to Terra's business in Argentina, which is currently based on advertising, Web services and e-commerce. Terra is a subsidiary of Spain's Telefonica Group, which also includes Argentina's largest telco Telefonica de Argentina. Key players in the local ISP market are UOL-Sinectis, AOL Latin America and Ciudad Internet. Argentina has 715,000 paid dial-up connections and 202,000 broadband connections, according to data from Internet chamber Cabase.
