Twenty firms eye Edomex energy projects

Bnamericas
President Vicente Fox's proposed energy reforms will help attract some of the 20 international energy companies that have expressed interest in investing in Mexico state (Edomex) power projects, the state's economic development secretary announced. "To cover the electric power deficit and provide power for the next 10 years, 9.9bn pesos (US$880mn) will have to be invested, with generation and quality control initiatives," the official, Francisco Funtanet Mange, was quoted as saying in La Reforma newspaper. The interested firms, which hail from Spain, the US and France, are waiting for Mexico's congress to decide on energy reform before they move forward, the paper reported. Fox's proposed energy reforms, under congressional consideration, aim to make it easier for private companies to help fund and operate energy projects.
