UN: Residential internet penetration 1.7%

Internet penetration in Paraguay has reached 1.7% among residential segments with 18,753 homes online, local newspaper Última Hora reported citing statistics from the United Nations Development Program UNDP. The areas with the greatest number of connections are capital Asunción and the cities of Central, Alto Paraná and Itapúa. The first three cities also record the largest PC penetration rates in Paraguay. Paraguay was recently ranked 98th among 104 countries covered by the World Economic Forum's "Global Information Technology Report", which quantifies IT and communications (ICT) development. The WEF analyzed a number of categories regarding ICT penetration, including quality of math and science education, affordability of telephone connection charges, government prioritization and procurement of ICT and affordability of internet access.
