US$33.4mn earmarked for southern infrastructure

Ecuador's President Lucio Gutierrez said his government will provide US$33.4mn in funding to support a number of basic infrastructure and road projects, El Telegrafo reported. Funds will be made available through the public works ministry to rehabilitate various roads in the country's south, including the Guamote-Macas, Guarumales-Mendez, and Amazonica highways and US$2.8mn to build the first section of the Cumbe-Ona highway. Resources will also be available for the San Francisco hydroelectric project. Gutierrez also promised to deliver through Cuenca municipality US$700,000 to continue work at the local airport.
