PRESS RELEASE from Abastible
August 2024
With the development of a portfolio of projects for more than $13,000 million, Abastible confirmed its entry into the green hydrogen industry in Chile and thus make available all its technical capacity to advance the adoption of more environmentally sustainable energies.
“This 2024 we are meeting an important milestone for the company, because we begin to develop large-scale projects for the green hydrogen market, making available all our technical capacity to implement and operate these solutions,” explains Ignacio Mackenna, Commercial Solutions Manager. Abastible Energy.
One of the projects is being developed with Comasa , an electricity generator in the Araucanía region, based on organic waste , which will allow progress in the first initiative, at the national level, for the production of carbon neutral fertilizers, using green ammonia. Abastible will develop the engineering, operational risk analysis and management of authorizations before the Superintendence of Electricity and Fuels. Comasa, for its part, will contribute with the existing infrastructure, its knowledge of the agricultural industry and innovative technology to produce synthetic fertilizers, in addition to its technical team to carry out this initiative.
This project considers an investment to execute the first stage, close to $10,000 million, in which there is a contribution of $3,500 million from Corfo.
Abastible is also developing a second project for $3,000 million, which allows the development and application of green hydrogen in mobility and blending matters. This has a contribution from Corfo for 50% of the total cost. “ We are looking for strategic partners who opt for this type of innovative technology to accelerate the energy transition ,” adds Mackenna.
The initiative consists of generating a mixture (blending) of Green Hydrogen with liquefied gas (GL) and/or natural gas (NG) for energy purposes at an industrial level and its injection into thermal systems, allowing the gradual decarbonization of different industries.
Mackenna comments “ the development of H2V is an opportunity to accelerate the energy transition and advance the decarbonization process of the productive sectors that currently use fossil fuels,” and adds that “entering this industry is part of Abastible's strategy of move towards a diversification of its business, by entering other energy solutions and businesses outside of liquefied gas .”
Currently, Abastible is the only liquefied gas distribution company that is part of the Chilean Green Hydrogen Association.
