Acciona seeks US$400mn for Brazil, Peru projects
The World Bank’s private sector lending arm IFC is reviewing a request submitted by Spanish infrastructure group Acciona for projects in South America.
The Madrid-based group looks to secure US$414mn to finance São Paulo’s metro line No. 6 and three power transmission projects in Peru, IFC information shows.
“The infrastructure investment rate in Brazil has been low in the last decade compared to other EMs [emerging markets], particularly in the transport sector. Existing transport infrastructure has also suffered recently from increasingly frequent adverse climate effects,” according to the lender.
“This project will connect 600,000 daily passengers from low-income suburbs to the city center. Improvements in quality may represent lower travel times (up to 1.5h less than current alternatives), lower accidents through an alternative to road transportation, improved air conditions, and enhanced resilience of public transport infrastructure.”
IFC adds that construction of the 15km, 15-station underground line has passed the halfway mark and that partial operations are due to begin in October 2026. Linha Uni is the concessionaire, comprising Acciona, Société Générale and STOA Infra & Energy.
The Peru work comprises 220kV lines Reque-Carhuaquero (79km) and Ica-Poroma (145km) and the Nueva Tumbes substation.
The funds would be channeled through Acciona Financiación Filiales and are part of a proposed seven-year green and sustainability-linked loan which would include US$186mn for other global sustainable infrastructure projects.
IFC’s board is scheduled to review the financing package in December.
