Acepesa to implement electronic waste study results

Costa Rica's environment and waste association, Promocion del Saneamiento Ambiental en la Comunidad (Acepesa), and The Netherlands' environment and waste organization, WASTE, have finalized a study to minimize and manage the effects of electronic waste in the two countries, Acepesa project source Victoria Rudin told BNamericas. The study also analyzed the economic and social aspects of this type of waste. "Acepesa has formed a strategy to manage these types of waste and we are now in the process of finding a way to launch the proposal," she added. Electronic waste is defined as discarded computing and electronic equipment. A technical committee made up of ministers, business people, professionals and educators has been formed to implement the strategy. The study is part of a bilateral agreement between Costa Rica and the Netherlands, financed by the Dutch government for US$281,000 (260,000 euros), Rudin previously told BNamericas.
