AES Colombia advances 100MW solar park

The local unit of multinational energy group AES has submitted an environmental impact study for a 100MW solar park in central-western Colombia.

AES Solar 3, as the development is known, is earmarked for the San Felipe area of Tolima department, according to documents filed with licensing authority ANLA and seen by BNamericas.

The cost of the project is estimated at 645bn pesos (around US$151mn).

It includes an associated 400-meter transmission line that would connect the park to the national grid via the existing 230kV San Felipe substation, owned by ISA.

"It is our intention that the project's implementation adapts to existing terrain, minimizing the impact on environmental conditions," AES said in the documents.

AES Colombia is also working on wind power expansion plans in the Andean country.

In July, AES Colombia development manager Mauricio Posada told BNamericas that the company aimed to bring online the 1,100MW Jemeiwaa Ka'I (JK) complex by 2028, pending the completion of the long-delayed Colectora transmission line.

Meanwhile, Portugal's Grupo Procme presented an environmental impact study for transmission infrastructure associated with its 200MW Villavieja solar park in southern Colombia.

The 230kV connection would traverse the municipalities of Villa Vieja, Aipe and Neiva in Huila department.

Estimated investment in the transmission line is 16.2bn pesos (around US$4mn).
