AFIN alerts about announcements that do not solve the needs of public services of the Population

Given the recent statements by various authorities announcing renegotiations or revisions of concession contracts, we indicate the following:

1. We Peruvians demand that progress be made in closing the gaps in public services. Large areas of territory do not have road and communications connectivity, water and sanitation services, health services, among others. In this sense, it is necessary to improve the quality and management of public management, as well as the capacity of the State to urgently and massively summon private investment to close these gaps. Driving away investors goes the opposite way to achieving this goal.

2. The main problem in the execution of many concession contracts is the breach of the obligations of the State itself, such as the delivery of areas, approve technical files in a timely manner, issue various permits, or generate expedited dispute resolution mechanisms during the execution of the works, among others. It provides the State with the resources and capacities necessary to advance in these points, it would allow, only in the transportation sector, the execution of pending projects for more than $ 6,240 million, generating more than 390,000 jobs.

3. It is essential that our authorities review and read the concession contracts signed, and that they show the enormous positive impacts they have generated. We are sure that this evaluation will lead them to conclude that we need more collaboration between the public and private sectors, in addition to working on an agenda to simplify procedures and strengthen the civil service.

4. All Peruvians should be focused on reactivating our economy and improving the conditions of access to public services. The work agenda to achieve this is fundamentally in the hands of our authorities. We hope proposals that go along that line.
