Thanks to the efforts of the Government of El Nuevo Ecuador, the 204 MW Alluriquín hydroelectric plant was inaugurated on April 10, 2025. This is the main facility of the 254.4 MW Toachi Pilatón Hydroelectric Complex. Fourteen years of neglect by previous governments are behind us, and this infrastructure is now at the service of the Ecuadorian people. Commercial operations began on April 1, in accordance with a resolution issued by the National Electricity Operator.

Toachi Pilatón is located between the provinces of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Pichincha, and Cotopaxi. It harnesses the power of the Pilatón, Sarapullo, and Toachi rivers. It is located on the western slope, which is why its production is complementary to the country during dry seasons. This complex also includes the 49 MW Sarapullo power plant and the 1.4 MW Toachi mini-power plant.

The inauguration was attended by the Vice Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Fabián Calero; the General Manager of the Ecuadorian Electric Corporation (CELEC EP), Gustavo Sánchez; and other provincial and local authorities from the electricity sector.

Vice Minister Fabián Calero stated that "the completion and commissioning of the Alluriquín power plant is further proof that the Government of New Ecuador is keeping its promises, meeting its stated strategic objectives, and serving the Ecuadorian people by providing reliable and efficient electricity service."

“A little over a year ago, when the current administration took office, these projects were almost at a standstill, with new schedule delays, complaints from the contractor, and legal and administrative disputes. But that's why we're here, leading the public service, to solve the problems and get these major projects off the ground,” he added.

For his part, the general manager of CELEC EP emphasized that "the completion of the works also included compliance with the observations established by the State Comptroller General's Office, such as the waterproofing of the Toachi dam, the correction of a section of the Alluriquín loading tunnel, and the repair of the Alluriquín balancing chimney, among others, which were construction flaws not observed by either the previous governments or the former contractor. The execution of these and the completion of other civil works was carried out by the Army Corps of Engineers."

In this way, the Government of El Nuevo Ecuador achieves another milestone in providing clean energy to the country, especially during dry seasons, when electricity production at power plants on the Amazonian side decreases.
