- The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, led the launch of the project, in which the head of SICT participated.
- This stretch will connect the State of Mexico, Hidalgo and the metropolitan area of Mexico City, directly benefiting more than 100,000 people.
- 50 billion pesos will be invested; with a length of 64 kilometers, it will generate savings of 40 minutes between Mexico City and Pachuca.
The Mexican Government begins the AIFA-Pachuca Passenger Train, a railway project that will connect the state of Hidalgo with the metropolitan area of Mexico City, which will benefit more than 100 thousand people daily, reported the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation ( SICT ), Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina .
During the start of preliminary works for the construction of the Mexico-Pachuca train, headed by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who was also accompanied by the governor of Hidalgo, Julio Menchaca Salazar, the head of SICT explained that the AIFA-Pachuca route consists of 64 kilometers, of which 14 are on an elevated structure and with some level crossings. This is built on the existing right of way.
During the event, two agreements were signed, where the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, signed as an honorary witness: the SEMARNAT-SICT memorandum of understanding, and the SICT-SEDENA Framework Collaboration Agreement.
The head of SICT stressed that the project will require an investment of 50 billion pesos and will generate nearly 40 thousand direct and indirect jobs.
The train has a double-track electrified railway infrastructure; from Mexico City to Pachuca there are 106 kilometers. In addition, the rolling stock will be a fleet of electric trains with a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour and a capacity of more than 700 passengers.
The time reduction from AIFA to Pachuca will be 50 percent, that is, it will go from 40 minutes to 20 minutes. In the case of Mexico City to Pachuca, a reduction in time of 25 percent is estimated.
Esteva Medina added that the stations for the AIFA -Pachuca train are in the process of being defined. “Although it leaves from AIFA and arrives in Pachuca, we will be leaving stops in the different municipalities.”
Preliminary work and studies will begin this Sunday, and information will be provided on what the entire process consists of. He said that these tasks are being carried out in coordination with the National Defense Secretariat ( SEDENA ) and the Military Engineers Group will be the one to build it.
The estimated completion date for the project is late 2026. Operations will begin in the first quarter of 2027 after testing and certification.
The municipalities through which the route passes are: Zumpango, Tecámac, Nextlalpan, Temascalapa, Tizayuca, Zapotlán, Zempoala, Villa de Tezontepec, Jaltocan, Pachuca de Soto and Mineral de Reforma. The population benefited is 1.2 million.
This train will allow an intermodal connection with the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA); the suburban train to Cuautitlán; the Buenavista terminal of Metro Line B; as well as with Lines 1, 3 and 4 of the Metrobús, Ecobici and the Tuzobús connection.
Esteva Medina thanked the President of Mexico for her trust in SICT and stressed that, together with the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development ( SEDATU ), Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources ( SEMARNAT ) and SEDENA, they will successfully complete this project.
“And here I want to close with the experience and knowledge acquired that defines us. The legacy of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is part of our memory, having recovered passenger trains; it commits us to consolidate this vision of transformation of the country.”
The president was also accompanied by the Secretary of National Defense, Ricardo Trevilla Trejo; the Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles; the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez; the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo; the Secretary of Public Service, Raquel Buenrostro Sánchez; the Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, Edna Elena Vega Rangel; and the General Director of the National Water Commission ( Conagua ), Efraín Morales López.
Also present were the commander of the First Military Region, Francisco Jesús Leana Ojeda; the commander of the “Felipe Ángeles” Engineering Group, Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez; the head of the SICT Railway Transport Regulatory Agency, Andrés Lajous Loaeza; and the person in charge of the Sustainable Development Project for the State of Mexico, Hidalgo and Mexico City, Roberto Capuano Tripp.
