Algar Telecom carries out tests in the 26GHz band

Uberlândia, April 2024 – Algar Telecom, an IT and telecommunications company from the Algar group, tests the 26 GHz band for the first time on its 5G network. The experiments, carried out in partnership with Huawei, exceeded 6 gigabytes of transfer. Currently, rates reach up to 1 gig.
The company is a pioneer in the country offering 5G service. In 2021, Algar Telecom was the first operator to launch the technology on the 2.3 GHz frequency and today it also operates on 3.5 GHz. At that time, the service reached three cities: Franca (SP), Uberaba (MG) and Uberlândia (MG). Currently, the fifth generation network is present in 33 cities and 131 sites in the states of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás and São Paulo.
The frequency under test was obtained by the company in the 5G auction and is available for its original area of operation. Service offerings in the 26 GHz band are not yet used in the market as they depend on technical variables, regulations and compatible equipment for use by the end user, both for retail consumers and the business segment. An example is cell phones capable of operating at this frequency, but the expectation is that, with the evolution of the mobile market, these offers will become accessible in the near future.
“Imagining everyday life with this frequency leads us to truly consider a new moment for people’s lives and for business. The data transmission capacity promotes applications that are still far from what we already know is possible in markets such as telemedicine or online games. However, if we consider that in less than four years of implementation we have already brought 5G to more than 50% of our served population, it is our mission to be prepared, in the best possible way, for when the frequency is accessible”, says Leovaldo Martins de Araújo, director of Engineering and Operations at Algar Telecom.
With more than 30 years of experience in mobile telephony, Algar Telecom has a history of innovation and pioneering in the areas where it operates. With this, the population has access to the most modern mobile technologies available, bringing connectivity and opportunities for people to the interior of Brazil, whether in their leisure activities or in business applications.
